Jonah Hauer-King, Connor Swindells and Ellie Bamber are set to star in historical epic William Tell from director Nick Hamm, we can exclusively reveal.
Written by Hamm, the film is set in 14th Century Switzerland, where a once peaceful hunter leads his people to rebellion after his family and country are threatened by a tyrannical Austrian King. The year is 1307 and the Holy Roman Empire is crumbling. As its grip on Europe loosens, new dynasties such as the Austrian Habsburg Family encroach on new lands, desperate for power. In Switzerland, the once peaceful country is overwhelmed and bows under the Austrian might as it advances and upends the quiet lives of the Swiss peasants.
The film is currently in production in Rome and is set to wrap filming later this month. It also stars Solly McLeod, Amar Chadha-Patel and Jake Dunn. It is an entirely independent production with a European cast, and thus has not been affected by the recent Hollywood strikes.
Hauer-King is known for his breakout role as Prince Eric in Disney’s live-action remake of The Little Mermaid, which starred Halle Bailey in the titular role. He has also been seen in shows such as World On Fire, the BBC adaptation of Little Women and Peacock’s The Flatshare. He can next be seen in Sky’s The Tattooist of Auschwitz, Rich Flu and A Beautiful Imperfection.
Swindells has been most recently seen in Greta Gerwig’s smash hit Barbie and is known for his role in Netflix series Sex Education. Ellie Bamber most recently co-starred in Red, White & Royal Blue and Disney+ series Willow, and can next be seen in James Strong’s Anna. Hamm has previously directed films such as Driven and Gigi & Nate, as well as Netflix series White Lines.
