Isaac Cole Powell, Rish Shah, Kate Berlant & Jamie Demetriou Join Charli xcx in Aidan Zamiri’s ‘The Moment’ (EXCLUSIVE)
EXCLUSIVE: Isaac Cole Powell (The Franchise, Our Son), Rish Shah (Do Revenge, Ms. Marvel), Kate Berlant (Dream Scenario, Don’t Worry Darling) and Jamie Demetriou (The Afterparty, Cruella) have joined the cast of Aidan Zamiri’s The Moment, produced by and starring Charli xcx for A24, we hear.
They join an ensemble cast led by Charli xcx that also includes Alexander Skarsgård, Rosanna Arquette and Trew Mullen. Filming is currently underway in the UK.
Plot details are currently under wraps but Deadline previously described the film as a “mockumentary” that “follows the life of a pop star in the lead-up to her first headline arena tour. The Moment gives an inside look at the inner workings of the music industry and explores how subculture is mutated by commercial success.”
A24 did not confirm this report.
Aidan Zamiri, who previously directed the music video for Charli xcx‘s “Guess”, makes his directorial feature debut with the film, for which he co-wrote the screenplay with Bertie Brandes. Longtime Charli xcx collaborator A.G. Cook will compose the score. David Hinojosa (Past Lives, Babygirl) is producing, while Brandon Creed, Mikey Schwartz-Wright and Zach Nutman are executive producing. Sean Price Williams (Good Time, The Sweet East) will serve as cinematographer.
Isaac Cole Powell is best known for his work in American Horror Story: NYC, in addition to the HBO satirical comedy series The Franchise, created by Jon Brown, and executive produced by Brown, Armando Iannucci and Sam Mendes. He also appeared in films such as Dear Evan Hansen, Susie Searches and Cat Person, and is also a well-renowned theater actor, having played the role of Daniel in the 2017 Broadway revival of the musical Once on This Island and Tony in the 2019 Broadway revival of West Side Story.
Rish Shah is best known for his role as Kamran in the Disney+ Marvel series Ms. Marvel, as well as his performance in Netflix’s Obsession. He has also appeared in films such as Do Revenge, India Sweets and Spices, and The Sweet East. He can next be seen in Prime Video series Overcompensating alongside Benito Skinner and Adam DiMarco.
Kate Berlant is best known for her work in the critically acclaimed A League of Their Own series, as well as Search Party and The Other Two. She has appeared in films such as Don’t Worry Darling, Dream Scenario and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. A celebrated comedian, she also created and starred in the one-woman show Kate, directed by Bo Burnham, which played to sold-out audiences in New York and Los Angeles.
Jamie Demetriou is best known for creating and starring in the BAFTA-winning comedy series Stath Lets Flats. He has also been featured in acclaimed shows such as Fleabag and The Afterparty. His film credits include Eurovision Song Contest: The Story of Fire Saga, Cruella and Barbie. A writer and performer, he also created and starred in comedy special A Whole Lifetime with Jamie Demetriou for Netflix.
The film will be distributed by A24 in the US.
